"Wicked Weka"

"I was really taken by this classic Cobb hut the day before, but it had been snowing heavily at the time. So the next morning with better weather, I backtracked from Fenella hut & set up my camera on the tripod & waited, hoping a little sunlight might come through. And then, just as the sun peeked out from behind the clouds & lit this scene, who should appear but this curious Weka?! Fortunately, I had plenty of depth of field @ f20 & 1/40 second shutter speed was just enough to keep his face sharp, yet show movement in his feet as he marched past me. Very cool! A common sight in many parts of the country, you've got to watch your gear with these cheeky birds, I witnessed a young boy almost lose a boot to one earlier this morning (imagine having to tramp out for 4 hrs with only one boot!")
