“Home to the country’s first capital, historic Russell in the Bay Of Islands is a far cry from its beginnings in the early 1800’s, with its colourful honour as the “Hell Hole Of The Pacific” - thanks to its lawlessness & prostitution! What a difference almost 200 years makes, I couldn’t imagine a prettier or more tranquil place to enjoy a summer’s evening. But it must have been bad to have earned that reputation!”
