"A cloudy, wet & still morning were ideal conditions to explore the forest around the East Ruggedy hut where we were staying. Late spring is always beautiful in the bush, with the fresh korus on the crown ferns & pongas, it's as if they have torches shining from their base! And this is just a few minutes walk from where I had witnessed something very special just a couple of hours before... I spotted my first kiwis in the wild! I'd gotten up to go outside the hut to take a pee, when not one, but two kiwi came brushing through the ferns, just 5 feet in front of me! And did I have my camera with me? No damn it, I guess I'll just have to go back & try again!"
