"I'd been meaning to visit Castlepoint for years & when I first arrived here the day before, I had to ask myself - why had I taken so long?! Although that afternoon had been stunning, I wanted something moody & dramatic, rather than the usual view from around the lighthouse. The weather was changing & rain was forecast the next day, so I gambled that sunrise might be worth getting up early for? Leaving Greytown in the dark & driving rain, things didn't look promising, but as I neared the coast & first spotted the horizon's thin clear line under deep cloud, I got excited. I quickly made the decision to scout this far end of the beach & then waited for the sun to rise & penetrate the gap, which created this gilded horizon. I certainly got my moody & dramatic!"
