I was a keen photographer from an early age, but didn't turn professional until I embarked on a bicycle expedition of the South Island of New Zealand in 1989, with 20kg of camera equipment!
A self-taught photographer, I spent many years travelling the world as a photographer on cruise ships and returned home to NZ in 2003, where I began experimenting with images on canvas.
Most of my work highlights the diverse beauty of NZ’s grand landscape and flora. Today, many of Air New Zealand’s business class “Koru” lounges are decorated with my art and pieces are avidly collected in NZ and overseas, including the family of the famous Swedish camera manufacturer, Hasselblad.
My first exhibition was held at "The Art Bungalow" in Kerikeri, September 2004, where Art Critic Larry Jenkins wrote: "It's a fusion of art and high-tech in a very intimate way, and Latham is a master photographer."
These artworks are produced using digital imaging processes and archival pigment inks, printed onto acid-free U.V. canvas (or 100% cotton rag fine art paper) and a U.V. inhibiting protective coating is applied to enhance the print's inherent stability. These processes are state of the art and the materials used are the highest quality available. To clean, carefully use a soft damp cloth, avoiding any excessive pressure.
"Print Permanence Ratings" (years before noticeable fading and or changes in colour balance occur) were published in April 2007 by the Wilhelm Research Institute, rating the "Print Permanence" of the processes and materials used to produce these prints to be greater than 250 years. BEWARE OF IMITATIONS OR COPIES
I am aware of people copying my signature framing, so please check closely to ensure the print's authenticity.
Sadly, there is much plagiarism in the art world, it is important that you know what you are purchasing and it's origin.
I would appreciate if you could contact me if you see my presentation being copied (be assured I am taking steps to minimise this), thank you!
I personally print and frame all artworks and each piece is individually numbered and certified on the reverse.
Print sizes can be adjusted and colours manipulated to suit your décor, or even customized for outdoors.
Editions vary in number so please click on the icon in the online galleries for details, sizes and prices.
Quote from the "Art Business Today": "The impact of digital technology on the fine art industry is as important a breakthrough as photography was in the 19th century."
A selection of my artworks will be published as cards and available from selected galleries throughout NZ from mid-2008 (www.livewires.co.nz)
